The course is taught in the winter semester of the first year of undergraduate study, the only prerequisite is therefore admission.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the fundamentals of stage lighting technologies, both on a professional and theoretical level, as well as from a practical and creative perspective. During the course, students are also introduced to the principles of the tectonics of stage space and the role of light in theatrical production as a key element of composition.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
identify and describe various light sources and lighting fixtures;
understand and use the terminology of stage lighting;
distinguish between different types of intelligent lighting fixtures and understand their applications;
demonstrate understanding of the principles and uses of atmospheric effect machines.
Syllabus
  • physical properties of light, quality, and light spectrum;
  • natural and artificial light sources;
  • basic classification of luminaires – types and typology;
  • color mixing and color spaces;
  • use of non-standard (atypical) lighting fixtures;
  • control chain, DMX512 protocol, network protocols, basics of lighting control systems;
  • atmospheric and other effect machines;
  • advanced lighting fixtures (intelligent lights) – typology, properties, and applications;
  • non-standard lighting effects;
  • video components in stage productions.

Teaching methods
Lectures takes place on a regular basis in the form of presentations and practical exercises where the student immediately verifies the knowledge in practice.
Assessment methods
Credits are gained on the basis of attendance (at least 80% attendance) and completion of partial assignments given by the teacher.
